"The cottonwood forest surrounding the Rio Grande in central New Mexico, called bosque in Spanish, is a fragile ecosystem that has been in decline since the Rio Grande has been dammed up, the annual flooding of the forest floor by the Rio Grande overflowing its bank from snow melt contained."
