"Trolleybus Skoda, which has served its working age on the passenger routes of Mariupol, will appear in a new role - as a unique giant camera, the only one in the world. The interior of the trolleybus is turned into an entirely black space, where the light penetrates only through a small hole. Using the same principle as it is in any photo-cameras, the trolleybus can get an image of a human height size. Trolleybus-camera works both as simple pinhole camera – using classic scheme of getting image based on the passage of light through a tiny hole, and as a camera obscura with several simple optical systems: Fresnel zone plate, monocle, periscope, landscape lens, various liquids of different refractive index and windows of the trolleybus themselves.
On the days April 27 - May 1 (and as we hope, afterwards as well) Mariupol residents and the guests will be able to enjoy the show like Lewis Carroll, being inside the camera, watching the mystery of the birth of the image. During the festival, the participants of the project will take several photographs on a photosensitive bromo-silver film of more than 1x1 m format. All volunteers will have a possibility to be captured on these images. And on April 29, Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, there will be taken a photo that will later appear on pinholeday.org site among others, made with various cameras with a small hole instead of the lens. WPPD is a special festival that every year brings together children and adults all around the world.
