Rod Kidd, "Banksia spinulosa"
Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
pinhole photograph

"This is one of nine flower heads from a Banksia spinulosa bush in my garden; the best flowering in thirty years. I put this down to the persistent, drenching Summer rains that broke one of the country's most severe droughts. Gold and green are also Australia's national colours."

"Pentax K5IIs APS-C digital camera fitted with a pinhole made from a piece of aluminium beer can. I had to shoot indoors so I opted for ISO800 and a 30 second exposure, during which time I played an LED torch over the subject. The image is uncropped; framing/composition was by trial and error."
