David Morton, "City Hall Detail"
Charleston, South Carolina, United States
pinhole photograph

"This little carved angel is easily overlooked as it is located off to the side of the basement entrance to City Hall. I like the fact that you almost have to be looking for it in order to see it. It resembles an angel depicted on very early coats of arms for the city, but that may be coincidental."

camera"Photographed with a Canon 450D crop sensor digital camera fitted with homemade body cap pinhole. The body cap was modified to add a cut down plastic funnel which the pinhole was attached to. Using the funnel allowed the focal length to be reduced from 44.2mm to 35.6mm yielding a wider angle of view of approximately 41 degrees. A further benefit of the recessed pinhole is that the funnel acts like a lens hood. The pinhole itself is made from a piece of an aluminum Diet Coke can with a 0.25mm hole drilled into it with a #10 beading needle and sanded smooth, funnel and pinhole painted black. The F Stop is calculated to be f141. Photo data: 1 second, ISO 200, Lightroom for contrast adjustments, Photoshop to remove dust, NIK Silver Effects for B&W conversion"
